Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a naturally occurring bacterial disease of insects. These bacteria are the active ingredient in some insecticides. Bt is considered safe to people and nontarget species, such as wildlife. Some formulations can be used on essentially all food Crops. The greatest use of Bt involves the kurstaki strain used as a spray to control caterpillars on vegetable Crops.

Bt acts by producing proteins (delta-endotoxin, the 'toxic crystal') that reacts with the cells of the gut lining of susceptible insects. These Bt proteins paralyze the digestive system, and the infected insect stops feeding within hours. Bt-affected insects generally die from starvation, which can take several days.

Introduction to Preparation

1. Effective Ingredient
The production strains of Bacillus thuringiensis were isolated from the soil at the suburb. The effective ingredient of this production is toxic protein that consists of spore, cell wall etc. The strain of var. kurstaki(Btk) can be used in the field of vegetables, rice, corn to control Lepidoptera such as Plutella xylostella, Spodoptera littoralis, etc.
2. Process of product
The preparation is produced by the ferment technology of Bacillus thuringiensis. After fermentation, the fermented liquid was compressed, and become the suspension preparation or wettable powders.

Character of Biology, Physics and Chemistry
1. Character of Biology
Bacillus thuringiensis exists in natural word widely. It is toxic to the worms of Lepidoptera and larvae of mosquitoes and does no harm to other organisms. In the precession of forming spore, germ produces a kind of protein that can be digested by mid-gut enzyme after swallowed by larvae and becomes toxic to larvae.
2. Character of physics Chemistry
The liquid preparation is suspension in light brown color with little sauce or no smell. Its pH is 4.0 to 5.0 and specific gravity is 1.04. The suspension is uniform and stable in prime temperature and can be store for 1 year. The bio-potency of the preparation is 8000 IU/mg.
The powders preparation is in light brown color. Its PH is 5.0~6.0. The powder is uniform and stable in prime temperature and can be store for 2 year. The bio-potency of the preparation of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki(Btk) is 16000 IU/mg and 32000 ITU/mg.

Using mothed
Bacillus thuringiensis can be used in vegetable crops and horticulture. Start with first spray early, before first sign of infestation occurs, and repeat spray if necessary after 3 days.
Spray to let solution run of the plant. Spray early in the morning of late in the afternoon to get maximum performance of product.
